Kurt W. Whitesell, CFP®, AIF®
Kurt Whitesell is the founder of Whitesell Financial Group, and a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Professional. Born on the Standing Rock Indian Reservation and growing up in Rapid City, he learned that hard work and determination would be keys to his success.
As a teenager, Kurt channeled his energy into amateur boxing winning numerous state and regional titles. At age 16, he won the National Multi-Sport Games Boxing Championship in Santa Clara, California. After a nagging injury, he decided to hang up his boxing gloves but still uses the focus and discipline boxing taught him when dealing with the ever-changing markets today.
In his early 20’s Kurt realized that many people needed honest guidance in planning their financial futures. He became a Financial Consultant in 1987 and in 2007 founded Whitesell Financial Group.
For over 30 years Kurt has empowered his clients to reach their retirement goals and his belief that an investment professional should be free from Wall Street and corporate influence ensures the highest ethical standards. His clients respect the value of knowledge and understand hard work, risk and reward.
Dedicated to investing in future generations, Kurt has volunteered his time and talent as a soccer coach and sponsor for more than 15 years. He is also an active fund-raising board member for the Dakota Fields Soccer/Sports Complex and volunteers for Junior Achievement within the Rapid City schools. He is a board member of the West River Estate Planning Council and is a past honorary commander with the 34th Bomb Wing at Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota. In 2006, Kurt was inducted into the Rapid City Sports Hall of Fame for his amateur boxing career of 135 wins and 22 losses.
He and his wife Suzie, reside in Rapid City and are the proud parents of four children; Alex, Erin, Christian, and Zachary.

Jim Cunningham, AWMA®
In financial services for over a quarter of a century, Jim utilizes his experience to provide clients many of the benefits of his background in banking, investments and planning to aid and encourage clients to become financially independent.
Jim is a native of South Dakota, growing up in Sioux Falls. Playing basketball in high school taught him the value of working together as a team. Drawing on those values today, he strives to be the coach directing the client’s financial team-accountants, attorneys, insurance agents, and others that aid their decision-making process.
A graduate of the University of South Dakota with a degree in Business Management, Jim has found that the ever changing world requires education and learning every day to best serve clients future strategies.
Jim and his wife Alisa reside in Rapid City and have three adult children; Rob (Kayla), Liz and JJ. In his spare time, he enjoys volunteering on various high school committees, refereeing youth basketball and baseball and brewing his own adult beverages.
A Rapid City native, Suzie earned a BS in education and taught for eight years before joining her husband, Kurt as part of the Whitesell Financial Group team. In her role of Client Relations, she utilizes her attention to detail and strong interpersonal skills to deliver the highest quality client experience.
Suzie and Kurt reside in Rapid City where she volunteers her time and resources to the United Way, Habitat for Humanity and many other civic organizations. Her commitment to making a difference in our community and with our clients is the foundation of the WFG vision.
Suzie and Kurt have four children; Alex, Erin, Christian, and Zachary. In her spare time, Suzie can be found entertaining family and friends, reading a good book, knitting, or watching her children play sports.
Alisha joined Whitesell Financial Group in September 2014 as an Office Administrator. In this role, she works closely with the advisors to prepare investment and insurance product applications, gathers research and data for financial plans, and provides ongoing support and service to our clients. Her passion to create effective, efficient and accurate administrative processes that offer the highest quality client experience embodies the WFG vision.
Originally from Rapid City, Alisha graduated from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology with a BS in interdisciplinary sciences and an emphasis in business. In 2015 she completed the Series 7 General Securities Representatives Exam and the Series 66 Uniform Combined State Law Exam.
Alisha resides in in Rapid City with her husband Brian and their two sons Michael and Alec. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, playing Bunco and watching Minnesota Vikings football with family and friends.
Tracey joined Whitesell Financial group in April 2016 as a Marketing Coordinator. In this role, she is responsible for conceptualizing and creating marketing ideas and activities. Her strong commitment to deliver the highest quality client experience, whether in the office or at outside events, embodies the WFG vision.
Originally from the Cleveland area, Tracey obtained a degree in fashion marketing from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. There, she studied the fundamentals of retail and business marketing with an emphasis on brand marketing, public relations, advertising, event planning, and promotion.
Tracey resides in Rapid City with her partner Christopher; son, Owen; and daughter, Rose. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, running, volunteering at the Humane Society, and spending time with her family and friends.
